Delay at 30,000 paper tax returns | Economy

About 30,000 Belgians received their paper tax returns in June with a delay due to problems at bpost. Their deadline follows exactly one month after receipt of the declaration, at the latest at the end of July. Francis Adyns, spokesman for the Federal Public Service Finance, confirms this.

Due to “unforeseen circumstances at bpost”, the sending of several thousand paper tax returns was delayed in June. They were therefore granted an extension and were not required to return the declaration on 30 June, but only a month after they had received the declaration. “The date on which those people received a report is registered with us anyway,” the spokesperson said. Above that, there were 20,000 people who “for some reason didn’t receive a paper return,” Adyns said.

Although not everyone automatically receives a paper version. Anyone who used tax-on-web last year, activated the eBox or submitted the declaration via an authorized representative did not receive a paper version this year. Last Friday evening, the deadline for those who complete the online tax return via tax-on-web expired. For those who submit the return via an accountant or tax advisor, the deadline is September 30.
