DEL: Straubing Tigers celebrate an important victory in the fight for playoff home rights

The Straubing Tigers celebrated an important victory in the fight for home advantage in the quarterfinals of the playoffs in the German Ice Hockey League.

The Lower Bavarians defeated the Schwenningen Wild Wings 5-1 (2-0, 1-1, 2-0) on Wednesday and secured their third win in a row. The Tigers have five games before the end of the main round in fourth place, two points ahead of the Düsseldorfer EG.

Marcel Brandt (12th), Jason Akeson (17th), Luke Adam (29th), Joshua Samanski (49th) and Parker Tuomie (51st) scored the goals for Straubing.

Schwenningen, for whom Brandon Defazio (37th) scored, has every chance of a place in the pre-playoffs in eleventh place with five games still to play.

For Schwenningen’s Daniel Pfaffengut, the game was over after just under 15 minutes due to a game penalty following a check on the rink.

Grizzlies continue to hope for direct qualification

In the parallel game, the Wolfsburg Grizzlys beat bottom Bietigheim Steelers 5:3 (3:0, 1:2, 1:1) and, in sixth place, can continue to hope for direct qualification for the round of eight.

The pursuers Kölner Haie and Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven are lurking with one game less and five points behind each.
