After two wins, the Cologne Haie had to take a defeat with the Augsburg Panthers.
The sharks lost 2: 4 (0: 0, 0: 0, 2: 4) on Friday evening and received the third defeat in the fifth game of the season. In the table, Cologne, together with Augsburg, ranks ninth with six points.
Fast first third with chances on both sides
In the first third, both teams made a high pace, the game was intense. Just a few seconds after the start of the game, Ausgburg had the first good chance when a shot from Madison Bowey (1st) just barely past the left post. After a Cologne False Pass, Thomas Schemitsch matched Christian Hanke (4th), who failed from a short distance from the attentive Cologne goalkeeper Tobias Ancicka.
In return, Cologne had his first opportunity through the free-standing Tanner Kero (5th), whose central shot from the rotation AEV goalkeeper Michael Garteig did not cause any problems. Garteig was also able to ward off a deflected shot from Oliwer Kaski (9th) with a quick reaction. Shortly afterwards, Augsburg had the best chance until then when DJ Busecker (10th) only hit the post with a tight shot.
It went up and down and there were opportunities on both sides. Gregor Macleod (12th) narrowly missed the panther goal with a direct acceptance from the slot, and Ancicka Enrico Henriquez (13th) stopped on the opposite side. Then MacLeod (15th) ran alone for Garteig in a counterattack and had a look, on the other hand, Ancicka parried strongly a return shot from Florian Elias (16th).
Hairs with more and better chances – Garteig strong
In the second section it was a bit quieter. Augsburg had the first degrees that Ancicka confidently defended. Afterwards the Cologne team were the more active team and had a lot of puck ownership, Maximilian Kammerer (26th) narrowly missed the AEV housing.
In a power play by the Augsburg, Ancicka (33.) prevented the deficit of his team with a double parade against Tim Wohlgemuth and Cody Kunyk. After that, Cologne was back on the trigger, but both Dominik Bokk with two attempts and Nate Schnarr (35th) could not overcome Garteig. Three minutes before the third end, Kero (37th) freely in front of Garteig, but he and Macleod also failed on the Augsburg goalkeeper.
In the last third the gates fall
After 25 seconds in the final section, the sharks took the lead. After shots by Macleod and Kaski, Patrick Russel (41st) added again and pressed the disc over the line from a short distance. But the leadership of the sharks did not last long: In the next attack by the Panther, Anthony Louis (42nd) set a shot to the lower edge of the latte and equalized to 1-1.
And just three minutes later Cologne fell behind. In a pass from Ancicka on the right to Kaski, Augsburg’s Kunyk intervened and matched the slot to Riley Damiani (45.), who did not give Ancicka a chance. Cologne had the direct answer to the racket, but Macleod (45th) failed freely on Garteig. Nate Schnarr (47th) did better: After Bokk’s strong preparatory work, the Canadian sank the puck in the long corner to 2-2.
But Damiani (52nd) brought the hosts back to the front when he pulled out of the slot again and hit the corner. Cologne started again and again in the final phase, but in the urge phase, Tim Wohlgemuth (59th) made the decision with a goal in the empty shark gate.
