As of: April 1, 2026 • 11:14 p.m

The Gladiators Trier won against the Würzburg Baskets on Wednesday evening and secured important points. After the game, the club caused a surprise.

The Gladiators Trier defense showed what it could do in the first few minutes of the game. Things also went well offensively – especially from the three-point line. Trier was able to continue to expand its lead and won 102:90 after a strong performance. The newcomer is now in eighth place in the Basketball Bundesliga with 15 wins and 12 defeats and has good prospects for the playoffs.

After the defeat in the away game against Bamberg last Sunday The Trier team wanted to get back into the playoff places against Würzburg, who were placed two places higher. Still with two injured: Nolan Adekunle and Steven Ashworth were missing because of their ligament injuries.

Trier’s strong defense shapes the game

There was fire right there in the game. The Gladiators were unable to prevent the guests’ first three points after just under a minute. But Jordan Roland immediately followed up with three points.

Things went offensively for the Trier team. George King with perfect rates from the three-point line.

Trier defended really well and prevented some points from the guests. In particular, the home defense prevented two-point shots from the hosts: only one of six went into the basket. It was unfortunate, however, that the Trier team had five team fouls very early in the first quarter, allowing the guests ten free throws alone, six of which went in. Nevertheless, coach Jacques Schneider’s team went into the second quarter with a 21:17 lead.

Trier’s fast game makes the guests sweat

The Gladiators made the game quick. This caused the guests to stumble in some places. Trier lived up to its position as the team with the best offense in the Basketball Bundesliga. George King with eleven points in the first half. Urald King, Jordan Roland and Clay Guillozet also delivered. Coupled with the strong defense, Trier went into the locker room with a 45:39 lead.

Many Interruptions heat up the mood

The arena was boiling. Not least because the referees stopped the game quite often. But Trier’s home strength was also evident in the second half. Supported by the fans, the Gladiators scored the next points through Clay Guillozet shortly after kick-off. One and a half minutes played in the third quarter: Unsportsmanlike foul on Marten Linßen by Alen Pjanic from Würzburg. And Trier responded directly with three points from Marco Hollersbacher to make it 82:65 after the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Würzburg’s David Muenkat had to leave the field – he received five personal fouls. The same applied to his teammate Charles Thompson shortly before the end.

Offensive spectacle decides the game for Trier

With two and a half minutes left, the Gladiators cracked the 100-point mark. A look at the scoreboard also showed that things were going offensively: six Trier players alone scored double-digit points in this game. Jordan Roland led the way with 20 points. But Urald King and George King also showed a 100 percent rate from the three-point line: four of four three-point shots went into the basket. In the end, Trier deserved to win 102:90.

Big surprise after the game: Million investment in Trier basketball

After the victory, the club caused a surprise. The Gladiators Trier want to build their own training center in Trier – also to promote young talent. The club announced this after the game on Wednesday evening. In order to finance this, the main sponsor takes over all shares of Gladiators Trier. This process is expected to be completed by summer.

The training and performance center is planned in the Trier city area – where exactly will be announced later this month. A training area with several halls, its own fitness studio and office space for the coaching staff is to be built on more than 10,000 square meters. The training hall should be ready in two years at the latest. According to his own statements, the new club boss wants to invest more than 10 million euros.
