With defending champion Matteo Berrettini eliminated in the first round, the lawn tennis tournament in Stuttgart lost an attraction early on. The 2021 Wimbledon finalist lost surprisingly smoothly 1: 6, 2: 6 against his Italian compatriot Lorenzo Sonego.
After his two titles in 2019 and 2022, Berrettini suffered a defeat for the first time at the Weissenhof. For him it was over in just 71 minutes against the world number 41. Sonego’s first match after an injury break that caused the Italian to miss the French Open.
