Recommendations of the Editorial team
On August 15, 2025, Deep Purple will publish a new edition in several editions for the 50th anniversary of her live album “Made in Japan”. The album recorded in Japan in 1972 is presented with this publication in new stereo and Dolby Atmos mixes by producer Steven Wilson.
Bassist Roger Glover remembers in the linnotes: “We traveled around half the world and the audience sang with every word. It was magical.” Steven Wilson adds: “Everything is the way it happened at night. The album has a strength and sense of dedication that you could never completely capture in the studio. Hopefully it feels even more with the new mix as if you were there.”
New mixes and rare versions
Steven Wilson mixed the three concerts from Osaka and Tokyo. The new edition also includes rare versions such as the German version of “Black Night” and the Mexican edit of “Space Truckin ‘”. As a first taste, the live version of “Highway Star” from Osaka is already available on all streaming platforms.
Originally only intended for the Japanese market, “made in Japan” quickly became a global phenomenon and received platinum in several countries. The album contains classics such as “Smoke on the Water”, “Highway Star” and “Child in Time”. We described it as “deep purple’s definitive metal monster”, while “Allmusic” emphasized that deep purple significantly shaped the heavy metal with this album.
“Made in Japan”: 10LP box, CD and 2LP vinyl

The “Made in Japan (50th Anniversary Edition)” appears as a 10LP Super Deluxe Edition, which contains all songs in the three Japan concerts. This vinyl box is available exclusively in the official artist shop and the Universal Music D2C Store and includes rare single edits in addition to the new mixes.
In addition, a 5CD + 1 Blu-ray Audio Deluxe Edition is published with all newly mixed shows and additional bonus material. For vinyl lovers there is also a classic 2LP Black Vinyl version with Steven Wilson’s remix, which will also be available digitally.
