Deep laceration: SV Darmstadt 98 without Zimmermann for the time being

“No structural injury”

Bundesliga promoted team SV Darmstadt 98 will initially have to do without Christoph Zimmermann. The 30-year-old defender suffered a deep tear in his left ankle during Hessen’s 1-1 draw at SC Freiburg on Saturday, as the club announced on Sunday. “The defender was taken to the Freiburg University Hospital for treatment during the game, but was able to travel back to Darmstadt with the team in the evening,” said the Darmstadt team. No duration of the downtime was mentioned.

Zimmermann was recently a regular member of coach Torsten Lieberknecht’s team and showed decent performances against Bochum (1:2) and Mainz (0:0). “There is no structural injury to Zimbo, but we will have to do without him for the time being. We hope that his wound will heal quickly and that he will be able to play again soon,” said sporting director Carsten Wehlmann. Darmstadt welcomes rivals 1. FC Köln to a groundbreaking game in the relegation battle on Friday (8:30 p.m./DAZN).
