Hoffenheimer Oliver Baumann will be in the goal of the German national team in the two games against Italy in the National League quarter-finals. The keeper received the number 1 from national coach Julian Nagelsmann and is supposed to represent the still injured regular keeper Marc-André Ter Stegen. The Stuttgart Alexander Nübel, who also had hopes for number 1, will have to make do with the role of the deputy.
In October and November, Nagelsmann still rely on a job division. The two Ter-Stegen representatives changed, nobody made a rough mistake. In contrast to Nübel, Baumann played zero twice. Perhaps this was the decisive factor for the clarified veteran Baumann, who after a foot injury at the beginning of the year has less game practice than Nübel. He has to prove himself against Italy. The first leg against Italy will take place on Thursday (8:45 p.m./ARD) in Milan, three days later the decision is made during the second leg in Dortmund (8:45 p.m./RTL).
With Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain, Germany’s fear opponent Italy can put a world-class man in the goal, which is currently in top form. The 26 -year -old European champion from 2021 has the experience of 70 international matches. Baumann, as well as deputy Nübel, can only compared Donnarumma as experience.
