The sporting goods retailer Decathlon is expanding its collaboration with the used bicycle specialist Rebike Mobility GmbH. After the group acquired a majority stake in the Munich-based company through its investment arm Decathlon Pulse in January, Decathlon Deutschland SE & Co. KG announced on Tuesday the imminent opening of new Rebike areas in four German stores.
According to Decathlon, Rebike shop-in-shops will be set up in the Berlin-Alexanderplatz, Plochingen, Munich-Unterföhring and Herne branches by the end of March. In the planned areas measuring up to 240 square meters, customers will in future be offered “a wide range of refurbished premium e-bikes and bicycles” from well-known brands such as Cube and KTM, the retailer explained. The range covers “all important categories – from mountain bikes and trekking bikes to city models through to gravel bikes and cargo bikes”. In addition, interested parties have “on-site access via tablets to the entire digital range of over 3,000 unique rebikes, which are conveniently delivered directly to their home.”
With the openings now planned, Decathlon is intensifying its collaboration with the company founded in Munich in 2018, which, according to a statement, is now the “market leader for professionally prepared e-bikes”. The first rebike areas were opened in Decathlon branches as a test last year.
In view of the positive experiences, the sporting goods retailer is now starting the further roll-out. “We see very clearly: customers who use our services come to us more often and prefer to come to us,” explained Nathalie Jäger, the Chief Strategy & Sustainability Officer at Decathlon Germany, in a statement. “Modern retail needs solutions that offer clear added value for visits to our stores.”
