Deadly knife attack on elderly man in wheelchair in London: city reacts shocked | Abroad

Police say the knife attack happened Tuesday afternoon in Greenford, a suburb in west London. The victim was between 80 and 90 years old and died on the spot. There is no suspect yet.

Police are asking anyone who was in traffic at the time of the offenses with a camera in the vehicle or on a helmet to come forward. Frasley Coutinho, a local resident, told the BBC that he saw the victim surrounded by a group of young people.

“This is a terrible incident which will cause great concern to people on the ground and throughout London, which is understandable,” Scotland Yard’s Sean Wilson said in a statement.

Mayor Sadiq Khan said he was dismayed by the knife attack. “My thoughts are with the loved ones of the victim,” the Labor politician said on Twitter.

In England and especially in London, deadly knife attacks are more common. However, the victims are predominantly young men.
