Dead in shooting at New York subway station | Abroad

One person has been killed after a shooting in a subway station in New York. Five others were injured, according to police sources.

The shooting happened on Monday around 4:45 p.m. local time in a subway station in the Bronx borough. Six injured people, four men and two women, were hospitalized. A man died there, reports include CNN.

According to the news channel, shots were fired on the platform after a fight broke out. CBS reports that among the injured are some bystanders who happened to be on the platform. Police are looking for two people in connection with the shooting. No one has been arrested yet.

Shootings on New York subways or buses are rare, reports The New York Times. There were five shootings in the first eleven months of 2023, compared to eleven in the same period in 2022. That year, a man with a gun injured ten people on a train passing through Brooklyn. That was the first mass shooting in the subway system since 1984.

On an average weekday, about 3.8 million trips are made on the New York subway.
