Dead beaked whale washes ashore on Texel, possibly the same animal that was seen in Zandvoort

A dead beaked whale washed up on the beach of Texel. The animal was found near Paal 28. According to the SOS Dolphin Foundation, it concerns a female of about four meters long.

Last month, three beaked whales got into trouble off the coast of Zandvoort. The animals do not normally survive in the North Sea, so a major relief effort was launched to send the animals back into the sea. When that seemed to work, one of the bathers tried to climb the animal’s back, what kind of great indignation took care.

According to the SOS Dolphin Foundation, it is possible that the animal washed ashore on Texel is one of the dolphins that came close to the coast in Zandvoort last month.

The animal is already decomposing and is being removed from the beach and taken to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Utrecht University. Here it is examined whether the animal was, for example, sick or had recently eaten.
