The Kerkstraat in Oisterwijk is full of beautiful houses with the most beautiful facades. But at the end of the monumental street is a deteriorated white house. All windows and doors are closed. The green attack on the walls betrays that it has been the case for a while. “It is outrageous that this can be found in Oisterwijk, it is a shame,” says a passer -by who walks past the house with his dog. The last contribution from the summer series De Kerkstraat is today from Oisterwijk.
It is not a nice picture for the residents who live right opposite the house. This is also the case for ‘neighbor’ Cees Peters. He lives on the corner of Kerkstraat and Rode Brugstraat. He has been calling that place at home for fifty years. The closed house is a headache file for him.
Bakker Jan Kosters once sat in the house. “Until ten years ago it looked very neat. The bakery’s wife in particular was very precise on the house,” says Cees Omroep Tilburgwhile he stares at the house. It is a thorn in his eyes. “This is the only dirty, Gore Rotplek in the village. We also had young people here who climbed on the roof of the house. But I’m the most afraid of fire. Then it’s not my birthday,” he sighs.
For years
There are several vacant houses behind the White House, and also a former cardboard factory. Plans have been conceived several times, but the municipality, project developers and residents could not agree. See you last year.
At the location of the impoverished houses, 29 homes must be built: from studios in the social rental segment to more expensive rental apartments. The municipality gave the green light on 19 June for the application for the environmental permit for Flora and Fauna. The application for this is currently still being prepared for the developer. It is not yet known when the demolition work will start.
Neighbor Cees Peters does not dare to be really happy with the new plans for the sealed street. For him it is: see first, then believe. “We have seen the drawings, and if it is built according to the drawing, I am satisfied. I really hope that will happen next year,” says Cees.
Kerkstraat
There is a Kerkstraat in every municipality in Brabant. Brabanders live in that street with beautiful stories.
Together with the regional broadcasters DTV Nieuws, Zuidwest TV, Studio040 and Omroep Tilburg we tell a story of a special Brabander from Kerkstraat for nine days.
