De Bijenkorf closes German online shop

De Bijenkorf withdraws from the German and French-speaking market. The Dutch luxury department store plans to close its web shops and all online activities in Germany, Austria, France, Luxembourg, Wallonia and Monaco.

Various developments over the past few years, particularly rising costs, have prompted De Bijenkorf to focus on the Dutch and Flemish markets, the company announced on Friday. The online shops in the Netherlands and Belgium (Flanders) are showing positive results and are therefore not affected by the closure.

“Everyone has worked with infinite energy and professionalism to build the German, Austrian, French, Luxembourg, Walloon and Monegasque webshops,” says Giovanni Colauto, Managing Director of de Bijenkorf. “I regret that despite these efforts, we now have to shift our focus.”

The employees have already been informed of this decision and the works council will be involved in the upcoming process. The activities will be phased out in the coming months.
