The Syntainics MBC basketball players won the second playoff semi-final thanks primarily to a super start. On Monday (April 13, 2026) the Lions won 81:71 (43:39). This means the series is 1:1.
The second duel in Halle began with a strong start for the MBC. Timur Topal’s protégés did not allow any points from their opponents in the first four and a half minutes and led 9-0 in the middle of the first quarter. The Marburgers had to repeatedly take difficult throws and at first they couldn’t cope at all.
MBC is not unsettled by Marburg’s leadership
The MBC went into the second half with a ten-point lead (24:14), but the guests got going better there and reduced the score to two points (35:33/18th minute). The Halle team finally made it into halftime with a four-point cushion.
But even after the break, Marburg continued to reduce the deficit and took the lead for the first time in the 23rd minute at 43:45. In a quarter with few points, the MBC had a little more success and, thanks to a 9:4 run, went into the final period with a lead of 57:51. The Topal team didn’t let anything go wrong there and quite rightly secured the equalizer in the series.
Possible decision in Halle
Among the MBC women, Alexia Allesch and Katelyn Shumate particularly stood out. Allesch recorded a double-double with 20 points and ten rebounds. Shumate scored 16 points and handed out eight assists. In addition, two other players, Liz Smith (11) and Romy Bär (10), achieved double-digit points.
The next two games will take place in Marburg in the coming days. Game 3 of the series is scheduled for Wednesday, followed by the fourth game on Friday. If the score is 2-2, the all-important clash for a place in the final of the German championship will take place on Sunday in Halle.
