Even long after the end of his career, Boris Becker once again set a record: his winning trophy from the 1989 US Open was sold at an internet auction for 357,546 US dollars (around 304,000 euros), making it the most expensive tennis trophy in the world.

In terms of tennis memorabilia, only Novak Djokovic’s winning racket from the 2012 Australian Open has achieved a higher result. The racket sold in February 2026 for $540,000.

The US Open trophy is enhanced by the fact that the original, like the player replicas, is made by the New York fine jewelers Tiffany & Co. According to ESPN, “The Tennis Auction” justified the high price of the lot with the starting bid of 25,000 US dollars by the fact that such trophies practically never come up for auction. The contract was awarded after 19 bids.

Becker himself does not benefit from the auction. He once loaned the trophy to the International Tennis Hall of Fame and handed it over in 2019 as part of his bankruptcy proceedings. At that time, the silver piece in question only fetched 167,000 euros at auction.

The second most expensive item at the current tennis auction online was by far a US Open final racquet from Djokovic from 2018, which fetched $20,713. The “Golden Ball Awards” from the Davis Cup finals in 1989 (US$3,509) and 1988 (US$2,899) were also auctioned from the former Becker fund.

There was also something for the low price: a racket from Spaniard Nicolas Almagro, for example, sold for just $425.
