Davy Klaassen does not yet know whether he will stay with Ajax

Davy Klaassen does not yet know whether he will stay with Ajax. “I can now say that I will stay or go, but you can never say that”, he said after the draw against Excelsior (2-2).

Klaassen again did not have a starting place at the club from the capital. The 30-year-old midfielder saved a point as a substitute with a nice goal. “That is also what I want to bring,” said Klaassen. “But I’m not here for myself, I’m here for the team. I’m a team player. So I’m very disappointed now.”

Perspective

Klaassen does not know what his perspective is under the new trainer Maurice Steijn. He was allowed to fill in against Excelsior, just like last week against Heracles Almelo (4-1). But Steven Berghuis is still missing due to a suspension. And the new Brit Chuba Akpom will soon receive his work permit. Steijn has also said a few times that he counts Klaassen among the leaders of his team, just like captain Steven Bergwijn and Berghuis.

The transfer market closes on September 1. Klaassen says he does not yet know what the future will bring him. “But I always give everything for Ajax”, he said in the catacombs of the Excelsior stadium. “And I will always do that. I don’t think it has ever been any different.”
