David Bowie’s handwritten lyrics were sold for over 200,000 euros

The sale price of David Bowie’s handwritten lyrics exceeded expectations many times over.

Musician David Bowie of the 1972 song Star man handwritten lyrics have been auctioned for over £200,000, reports The Guardian.

The exact selling price was 203,500 pounds, or about 231,400 euros. The amount exceeded expectations by five times, as the price of the words was originally estimated at £40,000.

Star man was released on Bowie’s fifth album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Marswhich catapulted the musician to international success.

The lyrics were sold to the Museum of Old and New Art in Tasmania, Australia.

The lyrics were previously featured in the David Bowie Is exhibition and belonged to the same owner since the 80s.

The lyrics of the song are written on A4 paper. There are additions made by Bowie and, among other things, corrections of typos.

Bowie died of liver cancer in January 2016. Bowie’s last album Blackstar was released just two days earlier on the star’s 69th birthday.
