On April 4, Lexi Jones, daughter of David Bowie and Model Iman Abdulmajid, released her debut album “Xandri”. On Instagram she has now published a poem with a clear statement – she does not want to go into her father’s footsteps with her music.
“I’m just trying to find my own peace”
The title of the poem is “David Bowie’s Daughter”, follows the line (in German) “That awakens your attention, right?”. It also says that although she is “the daughter of a legend”, it is still “more than just his name”. “They compare me with his heights / as if I had to reach his light / but I am not here to chase what has already been done / by love what I do, I feel that I have already won,” says the post. “I’m not a copy, no shadow,” adds Jones.
“I create my own rhythm / let my true I show / but nobody knows what it feels / constantly desperate / to finally say: ‘Fuck it’ / to then be compared all around.” The poem ends with the words “I stay in motion, I will stay / even if the world is difficult to satisfy / I don’t try to step into his footsteps / I just try to find my own peace.”

Her followers: the musician agreed in the comments on the inside and encourage them to go their own way. This is a comment “I found you because of it, but I’m staying because of you.”
Not to be compared to her father, but for Jones, does not rule out to publicly share their connection to him on their socials. The 24-year-old regularly posts videos and photos on which she can be seen as a child with her father. On the seventh day of the pop icon, she published a video that shows the two together on the keyboard. It was only last March that she also shared a picture on which Bowie holds her in her arm as a toddler. In the caption, she only commented on it with “Papa”.
To her debut as a musician
Lexi Jones mixes both pop and electric elements with indie rock and alternative rock on “Xandri”. “Through all the time”, “Moving on” and “Standing Alone” are just a few of the tracks on the album, which was released without a big fanfare. In the previous weeks, Lexi only shared excerpts from the songs via Instagram. The plate was written and produced by her.
