The globally active test and research institute Hohenstein has acquired shares in Global Textile Scheme GmbH (GTS). With this step, Hohenstein GTS wants to support the automation of data exchange along the entire supply chain, according to the company in a press release.
GTS enables the automated data exchange between supplier: inside, manufacturing, brands and retailers: inside. The company develops and establishes an international standard for dealing with structured product data in the textile and clothing industry as part of the GTS Industry Initiative. The aim of strategic cooperation with Hohenstein is to harmonize and automate the data exchange along the entire supply chain, from the fiber to recycling, and thus create the basis for a circular economy.
“The demand for reliable, structured and machine-readable data along the textile value chain is growing rapidly,” said Hohenstein CEO Stefan Droste. “We want to support our customers: support in this process and are committed to close cooperation with GTS.”
“The global textile scheme initiative offers a pragmatic solution for efficient management of complex data without increasing manual processes excessively,” emphasizes Droste. “Data becomes the backbone of the circular economy and we look forward to actively shaping this development together with GTS.”
Data more and more important for the fashion industry
Data is becoming increasingly important, especially in the face of new regulations such as the digital product pass (DPP), according to Hohenstein press release. In cooperation with GTS companies, the company wants to enable access to standardized data structures, which in turn is important for recycling, circulatory capacity and more sustainable production.
Hohenstein has built up an enormous database through the Hohenstein Institute. Hohenstein recently cooperated with the Munich startup Sizekick to develop deep learning models for precise size advice. This could reduce returns in e-commerce.
