Beau Greaves has made history at the PDC. She is the first woman to win a title at the highest level among men. Greaves was narrowly too strong for single world champion Michael Smith (8-7) in the final of Players Championship 11.
The 22-year-old from Doncaster had anything but an easy route on the way to the final. Two former world champions were waiting for her in the quarter-finals and semi-finals.
Rob Cross made it extremely difficult for Greaves (6-5), but the darts star showed no mercy in the semi-finals. Greaves faced Gary Anderson, who eliminated Wessel Nijman in the quarter-finals, and defeated him: 7-1.
In the final Greaves also seemed to achieve an easy victory. After trailing 2-0, the darts sensation won five legs in a row. In the ninth leg, Greaves also achieved the highest possible finish (170).
Despite Greaves’The Big Fish‘ threw, Smith came back into the game. It was up to the 22-year-old to hold her own legs and become the first woman to win a Players Championship title. Greaves wrote history with a great 142 finish.
Van Barneveld disappoints again
Raymond van Barneveld suffered a very painful defeat on King’s Day. The five-time world champion was one of the Dutch who simply traveled to the floor tournament. However, it did not bring him any success.
Van Barneveld was paired with Tom Sykes, number 97 in the world rankings, in the first round. The Englishman only allowed one leg to Van Barneveld, who is definitely not in good shape this year.
