They met while dancing in café La Poste in Dadizele (Moorslede). “I was embarrassed at first, but when I had a beer… Then he was stronger.”
Not much later there was that first kiss. “At the castle, here in the forest. We were secretly dating for four months, because I was still so young. They were not allowed to know that at home.”
Gardening
After marriage they had three children. There are also six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Frans worked in the local dairy for 40 years, but they are both still very active today. “She likes nothing more than cleaning, she even cleans the street. She then says she is going to sweep the street.”
But their shared hobby is gardening. He in the field and she in the greenhouse. Son Philip hopes that this will continue for a few more years. “That’s unique. The proverb says: ‘There’s a lid for every pot’. That’s true here.”
