Darmstadt first after catching up – Paderborn celebrates in Kiel

2nd Bundesliga

After an intense game against 1. FC Heidenheim, Darmstadt 98 regained the lead in the table. SC Paderborn could also celebrate. Away there was a clear victory against Holstein Kiel.

With a strong comeback, SV Darmstadt 98 secured an important victory in the promotion race and at least temporarily took over the top of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga. The Hessians turned a 0:2 deficit on Friday evening to a 3:2 (0:1) home win against 1. FC Heidenheim.

Aaron Seydel (77th), Phillip Tietz (81st) and Tim Skarke (83rd) caused cheers in Darmstadt in front of the 11,000 spectators. With two points more than Werder Bremen, the lilies are in first place, at least for the time being. Christian Kühlwetter (17th minute) and Robert Leipertz (61st), who had just come on as a substitute, scored for the guests, who were now without a win for the fourth time in a row.

The southern Hessians got into the game better. The FCH punished Darmstadt’s first negligence with the opening goal through cool weather, which only had to be pushed in after good preliminary work. The hosts had more of a share of the game as the game progressed, but hardly had any chances.

FCH made a more determined impression in front of the goal and made it 2-0 through Leipertz after goalkeeper Marcel Schuhen let a shot ricochet forward. However, the hosts didn’t give up and came back with a shot from Seydel from the edge of the penalty area, before Tietz equalized with a header. Skarke completely turned the game around.

Holstein Kiel – SC Paderborn 3: 4

Holstein Kiel is slipping further and further into the relegation swamp. The Storks conceded their third defeat in a row with the 3:4 (1:1) home defeat against SC Paderborn and must continue to look towards the danger zone. The East Westphalians, on the other hand, ended their dry spell of four games without a win with their seventh away win and consolidated their place in the top half of the table.

Ron Schallenberg (19th) gave the guests the lead in front of 9,174 spectators after the first serious attack in the Kiel half. Jann-Fiete Arp (23rd), however, equalized shortly afterwards with his second goal of the season. After the break, Maximilian Thalhammer (54′), Florent Muslija (74′) and Jamilu Collins (76′) made the decision. After the goals from Kiel by Alexander Mühling (81st, penalties) and Benedikt Pichler (88th), things got hectic in the final minutes.
