Thanks to the good performance of his team at Sheffield Wednesday, Danny Röhl has become popular. But shortly before the new season he leaves the English.
Danny Röhl draws a line shortly before the start of the season in England: Hansi Flick’s former assistant ends his commitment to the second division club Sheffield Wednesday. The club confirmed the separation on Tuesday. The explosive: The new season for Sheffield starts in less than two weeks.
Röhl has been head coach at the traditional club since October 2023, led him to relegation in his debut season and most recently ended up in the championship.
The 36-year-old had made it clear in the summer that he wanted to return to the Bundesliga in the medium term. “I see the interest of clubs as confirmation of my work. There were already inquiries last year, including from Germany, from the Bundesliga,” said Röhl in June the “Bild”. He wanted to work “as soon as possible” as head coach in the Bundesliga and “measure himself with the best teams, with the best trainers”.
There are said to have been specific interest from RB Leipzig and VfL Wolfsburg, among others. However, both clubs have chosen other coaches. According to “The Athletic”, Röhl is now taking a break. Despite an ongoing contract by 2027, he could therefore leave the association free of charge.
For Röhl, Sheffield was the first stop as head coach. He had previously worked as an assistant coach at DFB, FC Bayern, RB Leipzig and FC Southampton.
