Speaking to “Good Morning America,” the former Harry Potter actor said he contacted his young successor and offered him support.
“I wouldn’t say everyone who’s going to play Harry needs to contact me, but I know a few people working on the production. I wrote to Dominic and sent him a letter and he sent me back a very nice reply,” Radcliffe said.
“I hope you have a great time, an even better time than I did”
“I don’t want to be a ghost in these kids’ lives, but I just wanted to write to him to say, I hope you have a great time, an even better time than I had – I had a great time, but I hope you have an even better time,” the 36-year-old continued. “And I do too, I see these pictures of him and the other kids and I just want to hug them. They look so young. I look at them and think, It’s crazy that I did that at that age. But it’s also incredibly sweet and I hope they have a great time.”
“Harry Potter” reboot on HBO
Warner is currently reissuing “Harry Potter” as an HBO series and is filming a live-action adaptation that will once again film all seven fantasy books with a new cast. Each season will be based on one volume of JK Rowling’s original. Production should take place within a decade, not least so that the new young stars don’t age too quickly. JK Rowling herself is involved behind the scenes as an executive producer – although she remains controversial.
Start date expected in 2027
Filming started in the summer of 2025. A filming time of ten to eleven months is scheduled for each season. Although fans initially hoped for a 2026 launch, the launch date was ultimately set for 2027. A specific date beyond that is still pending.
The “Harry Potter” series will appear in the USA on HBO and the streaming service HBO Max. It remains to be seen whether – as with other HBO series such as “Game of Thrones” – this means a German evaluation on Sky/WOW or another provider or whether the streamer will launch in Germany itself by 2027.
Expensive production
Harry Potter is played by Dominic McLaughlin, Hermione Granger by Arabella Stanton and Ron Weasley by Alastair Stout. Series production will not be cheap: a “mini-city” near the Warner set alone, which was built exclusively for the series, cost a billion pounds. In addition to a school for the young cast, a new Privet Drive 4 is also to be built there.
