The court number 15 of Barcelona rejected the request of Alves, who wanted to be tried pending trial through his lawyer, and decided to continue the detention of the football player.
The Spanish media wrote that the evidence presented by the prosecutor’s office regarding the guilt of Alves, who is a Spanish and Brazilian citizen, was considered sufficient by the court and considering the risk of escape, it was deemed appropriate to stay in prison.

Alves, who was accused of sexually assaulting a 23-year-old woman at a discotheque in the city of Barcelona on the night of December 30, 2022, was detained after arriving in Barcelona from Mexico on January 20, and then arrested by the court he was brought to.
39-year-old Alves, who changed his statements three times and lastly stated that he lied in his first statements to “acknowledge sexual intercourse, to hide his infidelity towards his wife and to protect his wife”, was transferred from Brains 1 Prison to Brains 2 Prison on 23 January for security reasons.
Under current laws in Spain, Alves is likely to face between 1 and 12 years in prison.
Alves, who played for teams such as Sevilla, Barcelona, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Sao Paulo in his career, was terminated from the Mexican team UNAM, where he played for the last time, after he was arrested in Barcelona on charges of sexual assault.
