Dan Karaty is happy that his TV child So You Think You Can Dance is returning to the Dutch television screen, this time on Talpa. Why not at RTL? “They say no all the time!”

It is good and bad news for Wendy van Dijk: she is allowed to present a program about her passion for dancing, So You Think You Can Dance, but is demoted from SBS 6 to Net5 for this. The program was acquired by Talpa, because RTL – which broadcast the program on RTL 5 for years – was no longer interested.

Peter said no

Dan Karaty, man from the very beginning, lets in The Telegraph his frustration about the closed door of RTL boss Peter van der Vorst. “Fans have been asking me for years if it will ever come back and I have continuously peddled the idea to channel bosses.”

He continues his complaint: “However, I have noticed that it is mainly their job to say ‘no’ and explain why something is not possible, instead of investigating why it could work.”

John said yes

Fortunately, John de Mol wanted it, Dan continues. “The discussions with John de Mol were fruitful and my former colleagues at RTL are secretly jealous that I can do it again. Although they will never admit it out loud, haha.”

According to him, the program will change a bit. “The speed will probably be a bit faster. A whole new generation has emerged that looks at dance differently.”

Amsterdam

When Dan was still frequently seen on Dutch TV, he regularly flirted with emigrating to the Netherlands. What about that? “Yes, Natasha and I once toyed with the idea of buying a second home there, but that faded into the background due to events at our home.”

He concludes: “However, we still like to come there. The city has the same energy as New York with a shop or restaurant on every street corner, but calmer, nicer and cleaner. New York is not a beautiful city. There is a lot of ugly to look at there.”
