The damage from economic crimes in Russia amounted to 641.9 billion rubles in 2021.

This is the maximum value since 2009, when the damage to the economy from illegal actions exceeded 1 trillion rubles.

Last year, the amount of damage doubled in annual terms, the Ministry of Internal Affairs notes.

The main share (41%) of economic crimes occurred in 2021 in the “sphere of economic activity.” At the same time, most of the violations in this area were the manufacture, storage and sale of counterfeit money and securities.

There have been numerous cases of money laundering, illegal business and bankruptcy misconduct.

Almost 33% of economic crimes are committed against state and private property. We are talking about theft, fraud, misappropriation or embezzlement of funds and property.

About 17.5% of economic crimes are committed against the authorities and the interests of the civil service. It’s about giving and taking bribes., as well as mediation in giving and receiving a bribe.

Almost 6% of the statistics were taken by tax crimes.

The total number of economic crimes in 2021 was the highest since 2013 – 117.7 thousand (+ 11.6% in annual terms).

The share of economic crimes in the total number of crimes was 6% last year.
