Yesterday Max Verstappen took after an exciting qualifying the pole position! The race was stopped for a while because a smoke pot was thrown on the circuit, but that didn’t spoil the fun.

  • Zandvoort awoke early for the second day of the Dutch Grand Prix. Although qualifying didn’t start until 3:00 PM, the early birds there before 8:00 am.
  • The Zandvoort mayor Moolenburg looked with a satisfied feeling back on Friday. Except for a few drunken troublemakers, there were no significant incidents.
  • Verstappen recovered in the last free practice and took pole position in qualifying. He therefore has the best starting position this afternoon. After Friday’s disappointment in which Verstappen finished eighth, the fans were very happy with this result.
  • The municipality intervened in a action of a gas station because it caused a rush of prize hunters. The action led to congestion on the boulevard and the gas station was temporarily closed.
  • Beach bars are running within this weekend. The new walking route leads all visitors along the boulevard. Last year they walked through the Van Speijkstraat and the beach bars missed out on many customers. One of the beach bars even has a F1 car on the terrace.
  • Cycling is not allowed everywhere in Zandvoort, for some that was a reason to take a different route about the beach. It is not only the fastest, but also the most difficult route. “We could cycle 20 kilometers from our hotel in IJmuiden around the dunes, or cycle 7 kilometers over the beach. We opted for the latter, but plowing through the sand is very heavy.”
  • There was a lot of reason no trains for a while more between Zandvoort and Amsterdam because a bus had hit a railway viaduct.
  • Qualifying had to be halted for a while because a 33-year-old man threw a smoke pot on the track. Director of the Dutch Grand Prix, Jan Lammers, urgently called after the race not to bring flares to the track today.
  • With the outflow of visitors, it became busy for a while at the station in Zandvoort. In a riot, two people arrested by the police.
  • Fewer trains also ran between Zandvoort and Amsterdam in the evenings a faulty overhead line. It did not lead to a big crowd.
