There is great concern for Cyprien Sarrazin after his serious fall in Bormio. Now the French association gave an update on his health.
The French ski racer Cyprien Sarrazin has had a successful head operation after his serious fall during downhill training in Bormio and is now conscious again. As the French Ski Association announced on Saturday afternoon, the 30-year-old was awake and his condition was stable.
The accident occurred when Sarrazin lost control on a bump during his training run and fell with great force into a safety net. After his fall, he was taken to an Italian hospital by helicopter and treated in the neurological intensive care unit.
On Friday evening, Sarrazin had to undergo the operation after he was diagnosed with a subdural hematoma – a bleeding near the brain. Afterwards he was in an artificial coma. According to Stéphane Bulle, the French alpine ski team’s doctor, Sarrazin will now remain under observation for an undetermined period of time.
Sarrazin attracted attention with impressive performances last season. His victories in the downhills on the legendary Streif in Kitzbühel and Bormio in particular brought him into the spotlight.
