It is expected that half a thousand cyclists of fifteen nationalities will participate on February 3 and 4 in the third edition of VolCAT Platja d’Aro. This is the first event in Spain on the international calendar with UCI XCO points, in an event that counts toward the Paris Olympic Games next summer.

Coinciding today with the opening of registrations, the test was presented at the headquarters of the Generalitat of Catalonia in Girona, with the presence of the territorial representative of Sports, Anna Julià, the sports councilor of the Castell d’Aro Town Hall, Platja d’Aro and S’Agaró, Marc Medina, and the director of the test, Albert Balcells.

Platja d’Aro will be the first of the events of the VolCAT Series 2024, which will take place in an incomparable setting for mountain biking, with a Mediterranean forest next to the beaches and coastal paths. Two exciting stages in Cross Country format with start and finish in the town, with a paddock area and with all the services for runners and companions.

In the first two editions of the VolCAT Platja d’Aro the municipality has benefited from the arrival and stay of the participants and their companions, who for a weekend enjoy the services, gastronomy and the commercial and leisure offer of a population recognized for its commitment to sport.

The first stage will be 42 kilometers and 1,500 meters of elevation gain, with a quite leg-breaking route, with constant ups and downs that will encourage the attacks of the favorite cyclists to claim victory. And the second day will face a circuit of about 43 kilometers and 1,200 meters of elevation gain, with greater pace and with a sudden climb mid-race, which will test the resistance of the participants.

One of the unique features of the test is that it is open to professionals and also to amateurs in the Open category. All of them will take advantage of the singularities of the territory of Castell d’Aro, Platja d’Aro and S’Agaró and their natural environment to propose two intense stages, which will score separately in the UCI world ranking, in category C3.
