The action took place according to the principles of Shibari, a Japanese button art in which bodies are tied artistically and raised. The cycling legends were part of a series of performances in which living bodies are transformed into hanging sculptures.
The artists consciously opted for cyclists, given the strong cultural and symbolic value of cycling in Flanders. After about two hours, the performance ended and Museeuw and Mattan returned safely to the ground.
