Around 8.30 pm the cyclist crossed the ring road at Zandbergstraat and, according to witnesses, ignored the red light. An approaching BMW, who drove towards Kortrijk-Oost, could not avoid a collision. The impact shattered the left windshield of the car.
Bystanders offered first aid to a MUG team and ambulance took over the care. The victim was taken seriously injured.
The R8 remained closed for a long time between the Gentsesteenweg and the Zandbergstraat.
