Cycling: Van Aert cheers – but Gaudu still races past – cycling

The Belgian Van Aert had already won the prelude to the dress rehearsal for the Tour de France and was also certain on Tuesday (07.06.22) that he had won the third stage from Saint-Paulien to Chastreix.

“I took my chance”

But just as he took both hands off the handlebars after 169 kilometers to celebrate himself and his Jumbo Visma team, he quickly realized that someone had pushed past him to his right in the last few meters. Van Aert then put his jubilant hands in front of his face to hide his frustration.

The Frenchman Gaudu from Team Groupama-FDJ was then very happy about his coup: “It didn’t look like I could do it at first. But in the last 200 meters I saw my chance and took it. I’m just overjoyed.”
