The Abruzzese of the Lidl-Trek on the climb of San Lorenzo Dorsino imposed himself on the Sprint Felix Gall and Paul Seixas
Giulio Ciccone is ready for the Giro. The Abruzzo cyclist of Lidl-Trek won the first stage of the Tour of the Alps, departure and arrival in San Lorenzo Dorsino, one of the few sports events in this mourning Easter Monday. Ciccone on the climb of San Lorenzo Dorsino won in the sprint in front of Felix Gall and Paul Seixas (Decathlon AG2R La World Cup), Romain Bardet (Picnic Picnic postnl) and Florian Stork (Tudor): his green shirt of leader. The race took off on the Passo del Durone, the penultimate climb of the day. Ciccone tried a first shot but the Ecuadorian Cepeda, then Mattia Bais, were the first to stretch, who was looking for the first victory among the pros: he was resumed 2 kilometers from the arrival. The stage included 2,750 meters of altitude difference between Val di Non and Val di Sole, with a non -terrible but demanding ending: Passo Durone (6.3 kilometers to 8% of the average slope) 20 kilometers from the finish, then the climb to San Lorenzo Dorsino.

The first stage of the Tota was one of the few sporting events held in Italy. Why did you run? Because the CONI invitation to “suspend all the sports activities scheduled for today” arrived in the minutes of departure: the announcement of the agencies is 11.27, the departure at 11.32. The organizers made a minute of silence, in which the runners were invited to remove the helmets, and suspended the musical accompaniment.

The Tour of the Alps is the heir of the Giro del Trentino, the historic tour preparation race. This year five stages and the main one is the fourth: Thursday will be reached in Obertillach, Austria, after 162 kilometers and the climbs of Lago di Misurina, Passo di Sant’Antonio, Passo Monte Croce di Comelico, Anras and Krtitscher Sattel. The winners of the last few years are Juan Pedro Lopez (2024), Geoghegan Hart (2023), Bardet (2022), Yates (2021). The last Italian to win was Vincenzo Nibali in 2013. Antonio Tiberi grew up cheering for him and, twelve years later, he wants to be his successor: it is the Italian with the most chance of making ranking for the pink shirt. At the Tour of the Alps he aims to win, such as Bardet, Hindley and, at this point, Ciccone. They too, in less than two weeks, will be at the tour.
