Cycling | Lance Armstrong robbed

Huge shock for fallen ex-cycling star Lance Armstrong. The American was the victim of serious theft at the beginning of December. Many of his bicycles were stolen, including some real “treasures”.

As several US media outlets unanimously reported on Thursday, Lance Armstrong was robbed at the beginning of December. Accordingly, two burglars broke into a storage unit rented by the American, in which the 52-year-old stored numerous bicycles.

A total of six bikes with a total value of over 100,000 US dollars were stolen, reports the broadcaster “CBS”, among others. The most expensive example is worth around $50,000. It is not known exactly what type of model this is.

Armstrong thieves caught thanks to surveillance camera

Surveillance cameras captured the two burglars driving up in an SUV at 9:34 a.m. on December 10, then gaining access to the storage unit and beginning to load the first three wheels into their vehicle at 10:19 a.m. The break-in initially went unnoticed. At 9:04 p.m. the perpetrators returned to the camp and stole three more bikes.

However, the perpetrators were quickly identified based on the video recordings. Both have relevant criminal records and have various burglary offenses on their files.

On December 14th, during a search of the apartment of the girlfriend of one of the suspects, three of the stolen bikes were found and confiscated. The investigators also found the sweater that the suspect wore during the crime.

Armstrong’s longtime assistant Dave Bolch and a sports memorabilia expert helped authorities estimate the value of the stolen bikes. One of the suspects is in custody, the other remains at large until the trial begins.
