Cycling, fear Van Aert: in training he risks being hit by a cement mixer

As reported by the Hln newspaper, during training on Tuesday, the Belgian was in the company of the ex pro’ Bakelants who recounts: “Suddenly we heard the horn of the vehicle behind us which, at the moment of overtaking, cut us off the street”

At Ghent-Wevelgem he was the protagonist of a gesture of great sportsmanship by letting his “gregarious” Laporte win. Instead, on Tuesday Wout van Aert was, despite him, in the middle of a road accident that could have ended much worse. The Belgian, in preparation for Flanders on 2 April, trained for 138 kilometres. Joining him was ex-professional Bakelants. As reported by the HLN newspaper, Van Aert risked being hit by a concrete mixer.

The details in the words of Bakelants: “In the section we were traveling on, the cycle path was not suitable for speeds of 40-45 per hour like ours, so we opted for the roadway. Suddenly we heard the horn of a cement mixer behind us which, at the moment of overtaking, cut us off. I practically saw Wout under the wheels of the truck, luckily he managed to swerve towards the roadside. It was really scary.” Also on the eve of Sanremo Van Aert had denounced the risks that cyclists encounter during each of their outings. Pedaling on the roads of Brianza, he had posted a comment on his social networks: “worst training of the year”.
