Cup-Aus was a turning point at HSV

Hamburger SV has a good chance of returning to the Bundesliga next season. Before the last game of the season at Hansa Rostock next Sunday, HSV is in third place, which would mean a detour via relegation.

“Of course we want to get promoted now. It’s logical,” said striker Robert Glatzel to “Sport Bild” with an insight into the inside of the team.

A few weeks ago it still looked like HSV could miss the return to the top flight again.

After three games without a win in spring and being eliminated in the DFB Pokal semi-final against SC Freiburg, there were many arguments against the former Bundesliga Dino.

Ironically, Glatzel sees the 1:3 against Freiburg in the cup as a turning point in the promotion race. “Despite the defeat, you could see what could be possible here, because our stadium was packed and the atmosphere was unique,” said the goalscorer.

After points were regularly dropped in previous seasons, the trend is different this season.

HSV: Great praise for Tim Walter

The coach plays a central role for Glatzel. “Tim Walter has no problem discussing with us. He listened, asked us players for our opinion and also presented his perspective,” said the striker.

After negative headlines in particular accompanied HSV in the season finale in the recent past, he may be able to outperform city rivals FC St. Pauli in the promotion race this season.

Glatzel himself is also one of the most important success factors in the Rothosen game. He has scored 21 goals so far this season – a result that the pro himself had counted on. “I’m rather surprised that things didn’t go so well at the beginning,” said Glatzel.

The 28-year-old scored twice against Hannover 96 last weekend. If the HSV goalgetter succeeds again in the second division final, the chances of direct promotion in the event of a blunder from archrival Werder Bremen or relegation are good.
