Crystal Palace managed the big surprise in the FA Cup final: thanks to a hit by Eberechi Eze, the table twelfth of the Premier League won 1-0 against Manchester City. For the Eagles trained by Oliver Glasner, it is the first big title in club history.
Manchester City dominated the game over long distances, but repeatedly failed due to Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson. Eze brought the Londoners to the winning road in the 16th minute with the golden goal. For the defeated Manchester City and coach Pep Guardiola it is the first season without title since 2016/17. Crystal Palace will be there for the first time in the coming season and will compete in the Europa League.
Manchester City acted too harmless overall, Palace relied on a strong defensive and quick counterattack. A supposed second goal by Daniel Muñoz had Palace fans cheered again in the London Wembley Stadium after an hour, but the goal was revoked after the VAR exam due to offside. The Londoners survived with a little effort and thanks to Henderson, however, also the approximately ten -minute stoppage time.
In 1990 and 2016 Crystal Palace stood in the FA Cup final and lost both times against City’s local rival Manchester United. The Austrian Oliver Glasner, who won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022, had previously been cup winner twice with SV Ried in his home country.
