Cruciate ligament rupture: Real Sociedad’s top striker is out for a long time – World Cup with Spain in danger

injury in training

Real Sociedad will be without top striker Mikel Oyarzabal for the remainder of this season and much of next, while the 24-year-old’s absence from the Winter World Cup is also worrying for Spain. A cruciate ligament tear was diagnosed in the home-grown child on Thursday.

Oyarzabal sustained the injury in training, La Real said on Thursday. An operation is scheduled for the next few weeks. The player is likely to be out for more than half a year. The team from San Sebastian is currently sixth in the table and is fighting for a place in European business.
