Crowds by holidaymakers on European roads

European roads are once again busy this Saturday, with both returning holidaymakers and those just heading towards their holiday resorts. In Spain, France, Italy and Switzerland, among others, motorists on the well-known holiday routes should take delays into account, says the ANWB.

Schools will start again in the center of the country on Monday and that is reflected on the roads. Despite the crowds, however, there is no question of a ‘black Saturday’, says a spokeswoman. “It’s a bit similar to the past weekends.”

From Spain it gets stuck on the A9 and A7 between the French cities of Perpignan and Vienne. The delay can be up to two hours, according to the ANWB. In Italy it takes no less than three hours longer between the Brenner Pass and Verona (A22). In the other direction, the delay is more than an hour.

It is also busy at the Swiss Gotthardtunnel (A2). To the south, traffic takes 1.5 hours longer, to the north it takes forty minutes. There is a delay on the A8 between Munich in Germany and Salzburg in Austria, due to an accident earlier in the day and crowds.
