Coming from partner club Botafogo

The relegation-threatened Olympique Lyon has strengthened itself with two Brazilian national players: central defender Adryelson (25) and goalkeeper Lucas Perri (26) come from Botafogo and have signed until 2028. Both clubs are part of the “Eagle Football Holding” owned by US entrepreneur John Textor. Lyon published their transfer fees as part of the presentation of their new signings. 3.58 million euros were transferred for Adryelson and 3.25 million euros for Perri.

In return, OL secured 50 percent of the transfer rights, meaning Botafogo will receive 50 percent of the transfer fee in the event of a resale. At the Short message service “X” Textor responded to criticism of the replacements: “Some X-journalists are known for their half-truths. (…) If the transfer takes place between two controlled clubs, we estimate the fair value based on Transfermarkt and adjust contract features. In this case it was only a 50% purchase.”

Both Brazilians, who were nominated for the Seleção for the first time in 2023 but have not yet played there, currently have a market value of 8 million euros in the Transfermarkt database. Textor further wrote: “If both clubs continue to make losses and Eagle finances these losses, invests in the future and increases the value of each club, then whose money is it?” The “Eagle Football Holding” also includes Crystal Palace and RWD Molenbeek OL joined Textor at the end of 2022 and took over 77.5 percent of the shares from Jean-Michel Aulas. The latter said goodbye in May 2023 after almost 36 years as club boss and is now serving as honorary president.

Lyon, who had a horror start to the season, only picked up seven points from the first 14 Ligue 1 matchdays. Before the short winter break, the team achieved three wins in a row under interim coach Pierre Sage and even left the relegation zone (to the Ligue 1 table).
