There was drama in the preliminaries of the men’s freestyle sprint.

Already in the first heat, I qualified the fastest Oskari Hökkä fell on the snow during the Finnish Cup competition in Vuokatti.

Hökkä caught the main group, but used all his strength to catch the group. Thus, he finished fourth in his heat. It was the fastest of the lot Eero Iso-Tryykäri.

A fall was also seen in the second set, when Niko Husu hit the surface of the snow. Later it was Perttu Hyvärinen’s turn to kneel. Hyvärinen hit another skier in the last bend of the course, but still managed to keep himself on his skis and did not fall properly. Still, the skiing was ruined and Hyvärinen finished last in his heat.

On the women’s side, the fastest in their divisions were Jasmi Joensuu, Hilla Niemelä, Vilma Nissinen, Tiia Olkkonen and Katri Lylynperä.

Joensuu was already by far the fastest in the qualifiers.

Katri Lylynperä had to work hard in her own heat and was only able to win her heat with difficulty. Lylynperä won in the end Anni Alakoski mixed Emmi Lämsän. Lämsä really congealed on the final stretch and did not make it to the semi-finals.
