The renewed speculation about his national team future should not be an issue for U21 star striker Nicolò Tresoldi before the qualifying final. “He concentrates and focuses on the U21, he was really keen on the U21, and what happens in the future doesn’t matter now and, above all, tomorrow,” said U21 national coach Antonio Di Salvo before a crucial European Championship qualifier on Tuesday (6 p.m./ProSieben Maxx) in Greece. But it’s not just the association question that is open at Tresoldi – a possible summer move to the Bundesliga also became an issue on Monday.

After his brace in the 3-0 win against Northern Ireland, the 21-year-old from Club Bruges is expected to play an important role in the race for group victory. It remains to be seen whether the long-time Hannover 96 striker will continue to wear the German jersey in the future or play for Italy, his father’s country, or Argentina, his mother’s home country. “I have to say, I hear the question far too often right now. He plays for us and I think we’re all happy about that,” said FC Bayern U21 captain Tom Bischof. “He’s simply a great striker who is known not only for his goals, but also how he handles the ball and his technique. Not that many strikers have that.”
Tresoldi, with whom Di Salvo has “a great relationship of trust”, had emphasized his focus on the fight for the European Championship ticket during the international match phase. “I haven’t spoken to anyone from Italy. I’m now with the U21s and focused on the next two games. So there’s nothing to say about that,” he said before the games against Northern Ireland and Greece. The Italy speculation has been going on for a long time, most recently the Argentine association is said to have actively courted him (see article).

BVB and Bayer Leverkusen are interested in Tresoldi
At club level, Tresoldi’s contract in Bruges is valid until 2029. He has attracted the attention of top clubs there with strong performances and has subsequently increased his market value twice – it currently stands at 13 million euros. At the weekend, “Sky” reported a price tag of up to 30 million euros for the former Hanoverian. On Monday, the broadcaster followed up and spoke of interest from Borussia Dortmund and Bayer 04 Leverkusen. If Serhou Guirassy (30) and Christian Kofane (19) move in the summer, the topic could become hotter. RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich, on the other hand, are not in the draw, but there are also inquiries from the Premier League, for example.

Tresoldi said about his own development in Bruges in a Transfermarkt interview in mid-February: “I think that I have developed further in all areas of football and taken the next step. I notice that I can also compete at the highest level in the Champions League. I think that is not a given when you come from the 2nd Bundesliga. I have improved in the box, have more shots and am more dangerous in front of goals – but of course there is still room for improvement and a lot Areas in which I want to improve. Brugge is exactly the right club to do that.”
