The plastic group Covestro and the Chemical Group Lyondell-Basell permanently close their joint production facility for propylen oxide / styrene monomer (PO11) at the Maasvlakte location in the Netherlands.
The profitability of the location is under pressure due to global overcapacity and high production costs, Covestro said. Nothing is expected to change that, so that a profitable production is not to be expected in the long term.
The Maasvlakte location in the Rotterdam area has been in operation since 2003. By the end of 2026, Lyondell-Basell will now safely shut down the system and prepare its demolition.
The Covestro share temporarily lists 0.41 percent higher at 58.44 euros in Xetra trading.
