Counters give Jong Ajax a three-pointer on the Vijverberg, Poku saves honor for Jong AZ

As expected, the Amsterdam youngsters were hardly reinforced. The first played against Fortuna Sittard (2-2) on Sunday afternoon. After a difficult start on the Vijverberg, partly due to the poor field, Young Ajax got its first big chance. Kian Fitz-Jim seemed to have the ball in hand after a combination with Jaydon Banel. However, the midfielder shot his effort past De Graafschap’s goal.

The Super Farmers then took over the initiative through David Bosilj. First he simply shot a volley into the hands of goalkeeper Thom de Graaff and a few minutes later his cross almost led to an own goal by Julian Brandes. However, De Graaff was alert again. In this phase, Jong Ajax was unable to achieve much in an attacking sense.

The Graafschap storm

Immediately after half-time, Bosilj could have headed the opening goal into the goal, but De Graaff stopped again. Via Banel, Jong Ajax came to 0-1, despite the rain of opportunities for De Graafschap. The winger shook off Alexander Büttner and shot the ball into a line behind goalkeeper Thijs Jansen. The home team did not show up and had a gigantic opportunity to score the equalizer after the goal. Substitute Mimoun Mahi shot wide from close range.

He created danger again just before the end with a neat ball. His effort went wide again via an Ajax leg. It remained extremely exciting, because via an old-fashioned carom the ball seemed to go in a little later. Young Ajax kept the ball out of the goal with a lot of skill. Nassef Chourak even made it 0-2 in injury time from a counter, as goalkeeper Jansen went along with a corner.
