Gon Boers, councilor of the Hilvarenbeek party Hi Werkt, has slept badly due to an attack on her house. She had to come back from vacation earlier because someone when she was gone thrown an explosive through the letterbox. That happens Wednesday night. “I don’t think it has to do with my politics, but I still have many questions.”

Boers was still breakfast in Northern Italy with her husband on Thursday morning when they were informed by the neighbors about what had happened. They had heard a blow at night at the front door, but could not see much at the front. “Only when they entered did they see the damage.”

The explosion blown out the door of the meter cupboard via the letterbox. The hall is full of shards of glass and pieces of stone. “But we were still lucky,” the man from the councilor points to the gas box in the meter cupboard. “If they had touched it, then our house was no longer there. And not that of the neighbors either.”

The couple decided to drive home earlier: on Thursday night they arrived in Hilvarenbeek. They have mixed feelings. “It could have been much worse, but it is not nice. The police come along to record our report.” In the meantime she also has to unload the car and do the shopping, she says.

“I’ve never had threatments or messages before.”

Boers hopes it is vandalism. An out of control Kwaongensstreek, out of boredom in the summer. “I don’t want it to bind my role as a councilor, because I have never had threats or messages before,” she says. But she admits that it is haunting her head.

A party member also had to deal with vandalism a while ago. “Also during the summer holidays,” says Boers. “It is of course possible that a car floats spontaneously, but it makes you think.”

For now, the councilor mainly hopes that the rumor mill will be limited and it was bad luck or a mistake. “Just the first house of the street,” she says.
