Energie Cottbus has taken over the lead in the 3rd football league. At the end of the 15th matchday, coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz’s team won the top game at Rot-Weiss Essen 3:2 (1:0) and replaced MSV Duisburg at the top with the same points.

The Zebras had already clearly lost the promotion duel at TSG Hoffenheim II on Friday (1:4).

Tolcay Cigerci (13th, penalty kick), Justin Butler (51st) and Erik Engelhardt (69th) scored the goals for the guests in Essen, who had recently lost twice in a row.

The hosts, for whom Jannik Mause (61st) and Tom Moustier (88th) reduced the gap, have remained unbeaten for six games in a row and are fifth in the tight top group, only three points behind Cottbus, Duisburg and third-placed VfL Osnabrück. SC Verl is fourth with 27 points.
