Corona leads to loss of more than 24 million euros for Ajax

Ajax has announced the annual figures for the 2021/22 financial year. The Amsterdammers incurred a loss of 24.3 million euros due to the corona crisis.

For example, there was a negative transfer result of more than 19 million euros. The almost 38 million euros that came in for Ryan Gravenberch, Noa Lang, David Neres, Kjell Scherpen and Jurgen Ekkelenkamp, was considerably less than the transfer income in the previous season: 86.1 million euros.

In addition, Ajax played its home matches in an empty or partially filled stadium in the first half of the season, resulting in an operational loss of 7.6 million euros. That while net sales rose by 51 percent to 189.2 million. On the other hand, there is also an increase in costs to 196.8 million, mainly due to salary costs, competition-related costs and the settlement with the Nouri family.

Ajax expects a positive result for this financial year again, thanks to the many millions generated by participation in the Champions League and the transfers of Antony, Lisandro Martínez, Sébastien Haller, Nicolás Tagliafico and Perr Schuurs. The five players have already raised more than 200 million euros. It was therefore a record summer for Ajax on the transfer market.

Ajax has announced that it has had a good year from a commercial point of view. Revenues from merchandising (35.6 million euros) and partnerships (a record turnover of 39.2 million euros) increased by 25.4 million euros to 74.8 million euros. That increase is due to the conclusion of new sponsorship deals and the successful sale of the Bob Marley shirt.
