Corners disastrous for Twedo. Sweel takes the lead in 3D

Sweel won the battle for the lead in the third division D. An opportunistic final offensive by Twedo was of no avail. On a cold and chilly sports park Veenoord it became 1-2.

,,On the basis of the second half, a justified result”, said winning coach Marnix Bakker. His team turned out to be dangerous in the set pieces, especially with the corners. Both goals came from one of the many corner kicks. Twedo defender Patrick Kuhl was very disappointed afterwards: ,,It had nothing to do with playing football anymore. Just the long ball. We’re just giving it away.”

Koko turns out to be a fair weather supporter

It took some getting used to when entering the sports park in Veenoord – New Amsterdam. No grass race track, the faded white boarding had disappeared and the old main field had been dug up. The mascot, parrot Koko, was also conspicuous by its absence. Koko turns out to be a fair-weather supporter. Only the old broadcasting tower and weed-overgrown grandstands still reminded of times gone by. There was also a brand new artificial grass field. Only a few weeks old. ,,The players are happy to come and train again”, said a board member of Twedo. The old main field was known in the region as a tuber field.

Pace of play not good

The home team tried to combine well in the first company and to make triangles. In some cases, the team took Jannes de Lange’s training material too far. Turning around the axis three times and then making the pass does not improve the pace of play. The ball came out of midfield with difficulty. It was an even battle. The guests were dangerous from the corners. No fewer than two good chances resulted in the set pieces. First of all, Jasper van der Veen headed in well after a tight corner from Stein Jansen, but Rick Manting showed himself to be a worthy closing post. Shortly afterwards, after yet another corner, Richard Speelman shot into an opponent for an almost open goal.

Opponent’s fouls

If one doesn’t score, the opponent will. One of the oldest football laws perhaps. Likewise in the twin village. Where Bakker’s team had to deal with dead moments, the home club became especially dangerous after mistakes by the opponent. After Sweel’s missed chances, they defended sloppily. David Rabbers captured the ball and set striker Sander Boer free. The high-scoring attacker pushed the ball past keeper Lars Sikken: 1-0.

Opportunistic final offensive

The two teams came out of the dressing room expectantly. Where Twedo had the better of the game before, after tea it didn’t seem a shadow of half an hour earlier. Trainer De Lange had to intervene after more than half an hour of play, because it was not good on the left side. But in the second half it was never good for the home team. Two corners resulted in the final blow. First there was the equalizer from defender Ruud Nijman and fifteen minutes later Stein Jansen was accurate. The home team could not recover from the blow and disappointment. Despite an opportunistic final offensive, in which Iwan Immink in particular spoke. But this phlegmatic wing attacker also failed to make the equalizer that he deserved on the basis of the entire game. Sweel from the small Zweeloo is now the proud leader of the exciting third division D. Much to the disappointment of Twedo.
